What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine is a kind of unique medicine that used in traditional Chinese medicine treatments.

Because most of the Chinese medicines come from plants, Chinese medicine is also named Chinese Herbal Medicine. Nowadays, there are more than 5,000 types of Chinese medicines known and used by Chinese medicinal doctors.

The therapeutic principle of using Chinese medicine is unique. Generally speaking, Chinese medicines have 4 characteristics and 5 flavors. 4 characteristics mean the characteristics of cold, heat, warm and cool. 5 flavors mean the medicines’ flavors of peppery, sour, sweet, bitter and salty. Medicines of different characteristic and flavor will have different therapeutic effects. Best therapeutic performance can be achieved by following the four steps of treatment process appropriately: syndrome differentiation, application of therapeutic principles, selection of prescriptions and use of herbs.
